Optional Tour, 12 participants minimum
$250/person. Includes round trip ferry tickets, private motor coach, English speaking guide, lunch in Nafplion, entrance tickets to Ancient Epidaurus

We will start our day with transferring to Egina town to ferry back to Piraeus (1 hour, 10 min passage). Here we are meeting with our local English-speaking tour guide, who will be with us during the day. Our first stop after a short drive is at the impressive Corinth canal. We will admire the amazing canal that connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean sea. Neros in 67AD was the first attempt to cut through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth. The canal was finally accomplished in 1893 and separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece, thus effectively making the former peninsula an island. We stop at the far end where there is the submergible bridge that sinks down into the water for the ships to pass, coming back up again – many times full of fish! We continue to Nafplion, one of the most beautiful towns in eastern Peloponnese as well as one of the most romantic cities all over Greece. It was the first capital of the newly born Greek State between 1823-1834. Lunch is served at a local taverna and you will have time to stroll the medieval Old Town with its narrow cobblestone alleys and Turkish fountains. Our last stop is at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus. The UNESCO’s World Heritage listed monument is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asclepius, the king and god of healing, and was the most celebrated healing center of the Classic World, the place where ill people went in the hope to be cured. Found in the sanctuary, there was a guesthouse of 160 guestrooms. There are also mineral springs in the vicinity, which may have been used in healing. The prosperity brought by the Asclepieion enabled Epidaurus to construct civic monuments too: the huge theater that delighted Pausanias for its symmetry and beauty, which is used once again for dramatic performances, the ceremonial Hestiatoreion, baths and Palaestra. The theater is marveled for its exceptional acoustics, which permits almost perfect intelligibility of unamplified spoken words from the proscenium to all 15,000 spectators, regardless of their seating. The theater is still used today for performances in ancient Greek dramas and comedies during July and August. In the late afternoon we return to Piraeus to take the ferry to Egina.[/x_tab][x_tab active=”false”][x_image type=”rounded” float=”left” src=”https://soundmethodyoga.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Poros.jpg” alt=”Greek Yoga Retreat” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover”]Sunday, June 4
Optional tour, 12 participants minimum

$115/person including private boat and skipper

A full day private tour by boat to the surrounding islands. Our captain will pick us up right at the beach of Irides. We will be cruising through the narrow passages of Perdika and Methana with heading towards the island of Poros. Enjoy your swim in a small bay with crystal clear waters. We leave Poros through the beautiful narrow port-canal and sail to the cosmopolitan island of Hydra where we arrive in perfect time for a walk around the port and we will have plenty of time to enjoy lunch in one of the many restaurants (not included). Departure from Hydra approximately at 3pm. We will make a quick swim stop in quiet bay between Hydra and Poros to cool down. At the port of Poros we will have time to relax and taste the popular traditional desserts: Galaktompoureko. Heading back, there is a possibility that we will have enough time for a quick swim in Moni island.
