Like you, I am excited to be part of the Sound Method Yoga community.
A couple years ago, I started attending Jen W.’s Wednesday night class. I had always wondered about yoga and thought it would be perfect to help me get some physical activity and a little stress-free time in my schedule. I had so much going on at work and home that I had developed stress related alopecia (I lose patches of hair on the back of my head). I needed a retreat from it all so I could just chill. Yoga became an important part of my life. Last year, Mandy and I sat down and talked about this opportunity she had at the studio, and I looked at where I was with my current job and personal life. We talked some more. I thought some more. Then I jumped in with both feet!
I had to do a lot of soul searching and, like all of us, questioned my own decision a thousand times before I committed.Taking the step to leave my corporate job was not easy. I had to do a lot of soul searching and, like all of us, questioned my own decision a thousand times before I committed. The company had more than tripled in size since I started, and is continuing to grow. It is a great feeling to have contributed to their success, but I wasn’t happy where I was spending most of my day. It was tough to leave the friends I had spent a third of the past 9.5 years with and tell my employer I was “breaking up” with them.
As you all know, we are part of an amazing sanctuary in the heart of Omaha. Everyone here makes this an awesome place to be. Mandy and Matt, the top-notch instructors, and most of all the yogis who make up the heart of SMY. It is a great feeling walking in the studio knowing each of us are here for our own personal reasons, but in that simple act of self-improvement helps those around us in ways we may never know.
Recently, there have been days that I feel guilty for being so happy! That happiness is in large part because of the people I have chosen to spend my time with. The leap was a scary one and the dust hasn’t settled. I’ll be graduating with the SMY Class of 2016 Yoga Teacher Training in June. I look forward to supporting my fellow yogis as a yoga teacher.
